Prayers & Blessings

Words for every moment

Noahides are free to pray in their own words. These are starter prayers — adapted from classical sources and contemporary Noahide siddurim — with Hebrew and transliteration for those who want them.

Upon waking

Modeh Ani · Morning gratitude

Modeh ani lefanecha, Melech chai vekayam, she-hechezarta bi nishmati be-chemlah — rabbah emunatecha.

"I thank You, living and eternal King, for restoring my soul to me with mercy — great is Your faithfulness."

Daily intention

"Creator of all, let my words, my work, and my dealings today reflect the seven laws You gave humanity. Let me honor life, honesty, family, and Your name."

Affirmation of the Seven Laws

"I accept upon myself, today, the seven commandments given to all the descendants of Noah: to recognize the One God, to honor His Name, to protect human life, to honor the bonds of family, to respect what belongs to others, to show compassion to every living creature, and to build a just society."

Over food

Before bread

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה׳ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם הַמּוֹצִיא לֶחֶם מִן הָאָרֶץ

Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, ha-motzi lechem min ha-aretz.

"Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth."

Before fruit of the tree

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה׳ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הָעֵץ

Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, borei p'ri ha-etz.

"Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the tree."

After eating

"We thank You for the food we have received, for the hands that grew and prepared it, and for the body that receives it. May we use the strength of this meal for good."

In the evening

End of day reflection

"Master of the world, forgive me where I fell short today, and let me sleep in peace. Renew me, and let tomorrow be devoted to what is good and true."

Shema affirmation (universal form)

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל ה׳ אֱלֹהֵינוּ ה׳ אֶחָד

Shema Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad.

"Hear, O Israel: the LORD is our God, the LORD is One. (Noahides recite this as recognition, not as a personal commandment — affirming the One God before sleep.)"

Lifecycle moments

Welcoming a newborn

"Source of life, we receive this child as a gift entrusted to us. Help us raise them in truth, in kindness, and in awareness of You. May they walk uprightly all their days."

Under the wedding canopy

"Eternal God, who joined the first man and woman as one flesh, bind these two in covenant. Let their home be a place of justice, peace, and the seven laws — a small sanctuary in Your world."

At a graveside

"Master of mercy, we return this soul to You who gave it. Hold them in light. Comfort the bereaved among the mourners of all the families of the earth."

Seasons & festivals

Noahides are not commanded in Israel's festivals, but many mark them as moments of universal meaning.

Rosh Hashanah — Day of Judgment for all humanity

"Sovereign of all the earth, on this day of remembrance, judge us with compassion. Let every nation that seeks You find You. Inscribe us for a year of life and truth."

Yom Kippur — Day of return

"We turn back, Lord, from what was hollow. Cleanse us. Open in us a heart that can love what is good and refuse what is false."

The rainbow — sign of the Noahide covenant

"Blessed are You, Faithful to Your covenant, who remembers Your promise to Noah and to all the living. As the bow shines, so let Your mercy be visible upon the earth."

In hard moments

When afraid

"You are with me. You are the strength of my heart. I will not fear, for nothing is outside Your reach."

When grieving

"Source of comfort, hold this soul in Your light. Hold us too — that we may carry the love forward and walk uprightly."

When tempted to do wrong

"Creator, You who set the seven laws in the foundation of the world, give me one moment of clarity. Strengthen me to choose the harder right over the easier wrong."

For the world

"Let the nations come to know You. Let courts be just. Let cruelty fail. Let the rainbow over us be remembered, and let Your peace cover the earth as waters cover the sea."

These prayers are offered as templates. Personal, spontaneous prayer in your own language is welcomed in every tradition. The Hebrew is provided for those who wish to use it; it is not required.
